Slag dryers are typically equipped with a liner to protect the drum from wear and improve the movement of materials within it. The main functions of the liner include:

1. Protecting the drum: The liner prevents high-temperature materials from directly contacting the drum, reducing wear and extending its service life.

2. Lifting the material: The protrusions or specific shapes on the liner can lift the material, creating a parabolic trajectory within the drum and increasing the contact area between the material and the hot air.

3. Modifying the flow pattern: By changing the shape and arrangement of the liner, the flow pattern of the material within the drum can be controlled, helping to improve drying efficiency.

4. Reducing noise: The liner also reduces the impact noise between the material and the drum, lowering the noise level during operation of the slag dryer.

5. Improving thermal efficiency: Some liner designs can also improve heat exchange efficiency, allowing heat to be transferred to the material more effectively.
